Project Overview
Location: Austin, Texas
Year: 2024
Area: 3,200 sq ft
Category: Residential – Private Villa
Horizon House is a contemporary single-family residence designed to create a seamless connection between interior living spaces and the surrounding landscape. The project explores openness, natural light, and material contrast to create a calm and refined living environment.
Concept
The design is centered around the idea of “framing the horizon.” Large floor-to-ceiling openings orient the main living areas toward the west-facing views, while deep overhangs provide passive shading and thermal comfort.
A central courtyard acts as the heart of the home, bringing daylight into the core of the plan and allowing cross-ventilation throughout the building.
Design Approach
The architectural language is minimal and geometric. Clean horizontal lines define the massing, while vertical timber screens soften the façade and provide privacy.
The spatial layout follows an open-plan concept:
-
Ground floor: Living, dining, and kitchen in one continuous space
-
Upper floor: Private bedrooms and a study area
-
Basement: Gym and entertainment room
Natural materials such as exposed concrete, oak wood, and limestone were selected to enhance warmth and tactile quality.
Sustainability Features
-
Passive solar orientation
-
Cross-ventilation strategy
-
